Imphal, March 21: The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, emphasized on Saturday that the dream of a ‘Developed India’ can only be realized through the empowerment of youth and the promotion of innovation and entrepreneurship in agriculture.
While inaugurating the ‘Agri-Youth Parliament-2026’ at the Central Agricultural University in Imphal, the Governor stated that this platform provides a significant opportunity to bring together youth and various stakeholders to shape the future of agriculture in the Northeast.
He noted that the Northeast region, particularly Manipur, is rich in natural resources, biodiversity, and traditional knowledge. The Governor highlighted products like Chakhao (black rice), Kachai lemon, and Tamenglong orange, stating that they reflect the state’s cultural and ecological richness.
He asserted that through scientific collaboration, value addition, and improved market access, these products could gain global recognition, thereby strengthening the rural economy.
The Governor stressed the importance of integrating traditional agricultural practices with modern technology, promoting climate-resilient farming, enhancing infrastructure and market connectivity, and fostering a spirit of entrepreneurship among the youth.
He expressed confidence that this event would lead to meaningful discussions and partnerships, helping to make the agricultural sector stronger, more profitable, and globally competitive.
The three-day event, themed ‘Futuristic Agriculture for Northeast India: Sustainability, Innovation, and Opportunities,’ focuses on emerging research, technological advancements, and innovations in agriculture and related fields.
Before the inauguration, the Governor inspected various exhibition stalls alongside the university’s Vice Chancellor, Anupam Mishra, and interacted with participants, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
Several dignitaries, including Dipjyoti Rajkhowa, were present at the event, which saw enthusiastic participation from students, academics, researchers, scientists, and entrepreneurs.
On this occasion, the Governor also released a commemorative book. The ‘Agri-Youth Parliament-2026’ is expected to foster dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaboration in the region, paving the way for sustainable and inclusive agricultural development in the Northeast.
