Government Bars Unauthorized Use of Official Logos by National Sports Federations

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has issued a directive to all recognised National Sports Federations (NSFs) to immediately stop the unauthorised use of official logos and emblems belonging to the Ministry, the Indian Government, and the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

It has been observed that some NSFs have been using government logos on their letterheads, websites, visiting cards, and other communication materials. This has created a misleading impression that these federations are direct parts of the government or SAI, which is a violation of the National Sports Development Code of India, 2011.

The Ministry clarified that while NSFs are officially recognised and eligible for financial and other support, this recognition does not grant them the right to use the names, symbols, or logos of the Indian Government, Ministry, or SAI as part of their official stationery or digital platforms.

NSFs are permitted to mention their recognition status only in text form without using any official logos or emblems.

The directive further states that the use of government and SAI logos is allowed only on event-specific promotional materials such as banners, backdrops, advertisements, signage, or souvenirs, and only in cases where financial assistance has been provided or formal recognition granted.

All NSFs have been instructed to immediately remove any unauthorised logos from their physical and digital platforms and ensure that their affiliation with the Indian Government or SAI is not misrepresented in any manner. Presidents and secretaries of NSFs are responsible for ensuring compliance at both national and affiliated state or union territory levels.

The Ministry has warned that violations of these instructions may lead to appropriate actions under existing guidelines and laws, including cancellation of recognition or suspension of financial assistance.
