Government Assures Normal Supply of Petrol and Diesel Across the Country

New Delhi, March 26: The central government has confirmed that the supply of petrol and diesel is completely normal across the nation, with all retail petrol pumps operating smoothly. According to the government, there is sufficient stock available to meet the country’s needs, and there are no shortages reported anywhere.

The government stated that all refineries are operating at high capacity, and there is an adequate reserve of crude oil. However, some areas experienced panic buying due to rumors, but the situation is now fully under control, and all petrol pumps are functioning normally.

Additionally, the supply of domestic PNG (Piped Natural Gas) and CNG for transportation is being maintained at 100 percent. Industrial and commercial consumers are receiving gas supplies up to approximately 80 percent of average consumption to ensure their operations are not disrupted and that economic activities continue.

In the meantime, the government has notified the Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order, 2026, aimed at accelerating the expansion of the pipeline network across the country. This new framework will facilitate timely pipeline installation and reduce ground-related issues.

There has also been a rapid expansion of PNG connections. A record 9,046 new PNG connections were provided in over 110 geographical areas in a single day. Companies like Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) and GAIL are offering new incentives to promote this initiative. In Delhi, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has granted permission for 24-hour pipeline installation and waived road repair fees.

To expedite the process, the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) has been directed to resolve CGD (City Gas Distribution) applications within 10 days. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has also instructed that PNG connections for residential schools, hostels, and community kitchens be prioritized and provided within 5 days.

The government has taken significant steps regarding LPG supply as well. The allocation of commercial LPG for states and union territories has been increased to 50 percent. This additional supply is being prioritized for hotels, dhabas, restaurants, and migrant workers in 5-kilogram cylinders.

Moreover, states have been offered an additional 10 percent of commercial LPG, depending on how quickly they shift consumers from LPG to PNG.

In a crackdown on irregularities, over 2,700 raids were conducted under the Essential Commodities Act in a single day, resulting in the seizure of 2,000 cylinders. So far, more than 650 FIRs have been registered, and 155 individuals have been arrested.

To reduce the demand for LPG, states have been allocated an additional 48,000 kiloliters of kerosene. Additionally, the Coal Ministry has directed an increase in coal supply to small and medium consumers to provide them with alternative energy sources.

In a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Immigration, Visa, Foreigners Registration, and Tracking (IVFRT) scheme has been approved for a five-year extension beyond March 31, with an expenditure of ₹1,800 crores.

Furthermore, to strengthen air connectivity in the country, 100 new airports will be constructed under the ‘Challenge Mode,’ with an average expenditure of ₹100 crores per airport. Additionally, 200 modern helipads will be developed under the revised Udaan scheme.
