New Delhi, March 17: The auspicious festival of Chaitra Navratri is approaching. In an exclusive interview, Surendranath Avadhut, the head priest of Kalka Ji Temple, shared insights on how to please the Goddess during this sacred time.
He stated, “Navratri is a significant occasion for worshipping Shakti. The unique planetary alignments during this period enhance the effectiveness of prayers. Ayurveda refers to this time as the ‘Yamadanstra Kaal,’ a period when the risk of illnesses increases. Observing a sattvic fast and consuming light meals during this time revitalizes the body. This is why it is regarded as a major festival for worshipping Shakti. This year, the Vasantik Navratri will commence on March 19 and continue until March 27.”
He also highlighted the special timing for rituals, saying, “Due to the Pratipada Tithi, the most auspicious time for Ghatasthapana (establishment of the kalash) will be from 12:05 PM to 12:53 PM on March 19. Clean the area where the worship will take place, create a square altar, and install the idol of Goddess Durga. Daily prayers should be performed between 5:45 AM and 6:45 AM. Those who can should engage scholars for the Navchandi or Satchandi recitations.”
Surendranath Avadhut mentioned that this year, the Goddess will arrive on a palanquin. Such an arrival is traditionally considered inauspicious, raising concerns about potential natural disasters or turmoil. Therefore, he advised devotees to remain vigilant.
He added, “During the fast, one can consume light sattvic food. Fried foods are not healthy. It’s best to observe a complete fast for all nine days, but if that’s not feasible, at least perform special worship on Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami to receive the Goddess’s blessings.”
Finally, he discussed the arrangements at Kalka Ji Temple, noting, “During Navratri, the temple sees a massive influx of devotees. To ensure a smooth experience, barricades will be set up for orderly darshan. This year, there will be three additional lines to manage the crowd. As always, police will be deployed to maintain order, ensuring that devotees can visit safely. The temple administration has made special arrangements for the convenience of the devotees.”
