Apple Still the Undisputed Leader

Apple continues to dominate the TWS space, shipping 18.2 million units in Q1 2025 β€” nearly double that of Xiaomi, which took second place. Despite its overwhelming lead, Apple’s market share slipped slightly from 24.4% to 23.3%, largely due to rapid gains by competitors.

Xiaomi Leads the Surge in Growth

Among the top five brands, Xiaomi emerged as the biggest winner, growing 63% year-on-year and capturing 11.5% of the global TWS market. Huawei also posted 40% growth, while India‘s boAt continued its upward trajectory with a 31% increase, driven by affordability and localization.

North America and Tariff Fears

In North America, the TWS market posted double-digit growth, but Canalys analysts attributed this to inventory stockpiling amid fears of upcoming tariff hikes. Apple continues to dominate over 50% of the U.S. TWS market, while smaller brands are reportedly pulling back due to regulatory uncertainty and muted demand.

What’s Next for TWS? Beyond Price Wars

The TWS segment is evolving beyond price competition, according to Canalys. Key differentiators now include:

  • Real-time language translation

  • Integrated fitness tracking

  • AI-powered interactions

  • Tighter ecosystem integration

Consumers are increasingly looking for earbuds that go beyond music β€” and vendors who fail to innovate on functionality risk stagnation.

Outlook for 2025

With strong Q1 performance and a pipeline full of AI-integrated and feature-rich models, the TWS segment is poised to remain a growth engine for tech brands throughout 2025. Canalys notes that innovation in form factor and use-case-driven features will define the next wave of competition.
