New Chandigarh, June 7: India and Afghanistan are currently facing off in a single Test match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. On the second day of the Test, the Indian team declared their first innings at 564 runs after losing 8 wickets.
The day began with Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant adding 48 runs to the score. Captain Gill scored 126 runs off 177 balls, hitting 15 fours and a six. Pant also showcased his batting skills, scoring 81 runs with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes, narrowly missing out on a century. Dhruv Jurel struggled with the bat, getting out for just 19 runs.
After the dismissals of Pant and Jurel, Washington Sundar and Manav Suthar took charge. They formed a crucial partnership, adding 54 runs for the seventh wicket off 85 balls. In his debut innings, Manav scored 28 runs before being dismissed. Mohammed Siraj contributed 22 runs off just 12 balls, including 4 fours and a six. Sundar remained unbeaten, scoring 52 runs off 68 balls, with 5 fours and a six.
Sundar and Siraj added 30 runs in 23 balls, while they also partnered with Kuldeep Yadav for 24 runs, with Kuldeep remaining not out at 9. Yashasvi Jaiswal chipped in with 24 runs, while KL Rahul played a stellar innings, scoring 100 runs off 165 balls. Sai Sudharsan also impressed with 81 runs off 104 balls, hitting 13 fours.
On the bowling front, Afghanistan’s Mohammad Salim Safi excelled, taking 6 wickets. Ziaur Rahman and Hashmatullah Shahidi each claimed one wicket. This score of 564 runs is the second highest ever made against Afghanistan by any team and marks the first time since 2023 that the Indian team has crossed the 550-run mark.
