Dallas, March 2: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 100-87 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night, scoring 30 points. Chet Holmgren contributed significantly with 19 points and nine rebounds.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s performance marked his 59th consecutive road game with at least 20 points, setting a new NBA record. This game was particularly notable as it was his second appearance after missing nine games due to an abdominal strain.
The defending champion Thunder now hold a record of 47-15, just half a game behind Detroit for the top spot in the NBA. They maintain a three-game lead over second-place San Antonio in the Western Conference.
The Mavericks faced challenges, missing star rookie Cooper Flagg and two other regular starters. They were restricted to a season-low point total, ending their streak of 41 consecutive games scoring in triple digits. Their current record stands at 21-39.
Caleb Martin led the Mavericks with a season-high of 18 points. Unfortunately for Dallas, this loss marked their eighth straight at home and their 13th loss in the last 15 games, the longest home losing streak since 1993-94.
This was the first game in 65 where Martin, who joined the team from Philadelphia on February 5, 2025, led in scoring. The Thunder’s 100 points were their fewest in a win this season, with their previous low being 101 points in a victory on October 27.
Cooper Flagg missed his seventh consecutive game due to a sprained left foot. The Mavericks were also without Naji Marshall (right-finger contusion) and P.J. Washington Jr. (left ankle sprain). Mavericks coach Jason Kidd indicated that Flagg is unlikely to play in the upcoming game against Charlotte, marking his first NBA return to North Carolina.
