Tushar Gandhi Launches Series of Protests to Defend Democracy

Tushar Gandhi announces a series of protests calling for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner to protect democracy.

New Delhi, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, has announced a series of protests aimed at defending democracy and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Speaking in New Delhi, he emphasized the need for a sustained movement, reminiscent of the personal satyagraha led by his grandfather during India’s freedom struggle.

Gandhi outlined plans for a “Tricolor Constitution March” starting from the Corporation Office to the Ministry. He stated that the march will pay homage to historical figures, culminating at the statues of Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi. Despite police warnings about restricted areas, Gandhi insisted that the protest would proceed, noting that today is a holiday and there would be no disruption to daily life.

He expressed frustration with the police’s stance, which he claimed was aimed at suppressing their movement. Gandhi stated, “We will not be intimidated. The government is attempting to label these protests as chaotic, but the public can see through this narrative.” He pointed out that previous protests had been marred by elements supporting the ruling party, suggesting that the public is aware of who is truly causing unrest.

Gandhi also raised concerns about the integrity of the electoral process, asserting that whether elections are conducted via ballot paper or electronic voting machines (EVMs), the system must be challenged if it is predetermined. He highlighted recent electoral defeats of prominent leaders in Maharashtra as evidence of shifting public sentiment.

The activist criticized the government for prioritizing its power over citizens’ welfare, citing instances where local businesses were forced to close in areas like Connaught Place to suppress dissent. He concluded by stating that the government is more concerned about maintaining its grip on power rather than addressing the needs of the people.

Tushar Gandhi’s call to action aims to mobilize citizens in a fight for democratic integrity, as he urges them to join him in this crucial movement.
