Gaurav Gogoi Takes Responsibility for Assam Assembly Election Loss

Guwahati, May 9: Gaurav Gogoi, the President of Assam Congress, has accepted full responsibility for the party’s defeat in the recent assembly elections.

In a conversation with the media, Gogoi expressed his disappointment over the election results, describing them as extremely unsatisfactory. He has informed the high command that the party takes complete accountability for the outcome. The high command will now decide on necessary organizational changes and future steps. Additionally, an internal review process has been initiated.

Gogoi stated that discussions are ongoing with former legislators, candidates, and newly elected members to gather insights on grassroots sentiments and strategize for the future.

Responding to AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal’s remarks about Congress, Gogoi asserted that the Congress party has effectively dismantled Ajmal’s communal politics. He pointed out that Ajmal faced defeat in his own constituency during the last Lok Sabha elections, marking a significant setback for his party.

In this assembly election, Congress candidates delivered a strong response to AIUDF, winning in most areas where AIUDF had representation, except for two instances. Gogoi emphasized that Congress is the party that has ended AIUDF’s communal politics in Assam, while also accusing AIUDF and AIMIM of aiding the BJP in the elections.

Regarding Himanta Biswa Sarma’s statements, Gogoi criticized the lack of a development agenda from the newly elected government. He argued that as representatives of Assam, they should be formulating plans to address the state’s issues, but Sarma appears to lack such an agenda.

On the other hand, Gogoi noted that their coalition partners have also pointed fingers at Congress following the electoral defeat.

In response to Akhil Gogoi’s comments, Gaurav Gogoi mentioned that they maintain good relations with four out of five allied parties. He highlighted that Akhil Gogoi is the only individual who has been in talks with Chief Minister Sarma during the elections, suggesting that his alignment with BJP raises questions about his motives.
