Garrett Nussmeier Named Senior Bowl MVP After Strong Comeback

Former LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was named the Senior Bowl MVP on Saturday. Although he threw only eight passes and his statistics were modest, Nussmeier demonstrated his health and skill throughout the game. He delivered some impressive throws and showcased his athleticism effectively.

Nussmeier entered the 2025 season as one of the nation’s top quarterbacks, widely discussed as a Heisman Trophy contender and a potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, the season did not unfold as expected, with both Nussmeier and the LSU offense facing significant struggles.

Injuries played a key role in his performance issues. There were reports of a camp injury, but LSU head coach Brian Kelly offered limited details. Kelly maintained that Nussmeier was making progress, though it was clear the quarterback was not at full strength during much of the season.

Last week, Nussmeier addressed his injury, revealing that he had been unable to use his core muscles properly to throw. Now fully recovered, he has regained the attention of NFL scouts. While he is unlikely to be selected in the first round, he is expected to be among the first quarterbacks picked in the second day of the draft.
