New Delhi, April 22: Ganga Saptami, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, is celebrated on the seventh day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Baisakh. This year, Ganga Saptami falls on Thursday, April 23. Devotees believe that worshipping, bathing, and performing charitable acts on this day yield significant benefits. Performing rituals during auspicious timings is said to fulfill wishes. On this occasion, Guru Pushya Yoga will be effective throughout the day, along with Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga.
Ganga Saptami is also known as Ganga Jayanti or Ganga Puja. According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Ganga was born on this day. She descended to Earth on Ganga Dussehra. Her flow was so powerful that it threatened to disrupt the balance of the Earth. To contain her, Lord Shiva held her in his locks. Later, he released her to purify the cursed souls of Bhagirath’s ancestors.
