Mumbai, April 28: Renowned actor Gajraj Rao recently met with Shekhar Kapur, the producer of the iconic film ‘Bandit Queen’, in Mumbai.
On Monday, Gajraj shared photos from their meeting on his official Instagram account. He expressed his gratitude towards the director for playing a pivotal role in his film career. The actor acknowledged that his role as Ashok Chand in ‘Bandit Queen’ significantly altered the course of his life.
In his post, Gajraj wrote, “Shekhar, thank you so much for everything. I love you, Shekhar. Three decades ago, you gave me a small role in your historical film ‘Bandit Queen’. That small but crucial character changed the direction of my life. I will always be grateful to the great filmmaker Shekhar Kapur.”
The veteran actor noted that Shekhar greeted him with the same warmth as he did three decades ago. Gajraj remarked that the eyes of the creator of ‘Masoom’ reflected the compassion and wisdom of a Sufi saint.
He further added, “Today, luck smiled upon me again as I coincidentally met him at Soho House in Mumbai. I received his blessings. He remains as affectionate and approachable as he was 30 years ago when I worked with him. His eyes reveal compassion and wisdom, reminiscent of a Sufi saint or mystic. Thank you for everything, Shekhar.”
The film ‘Bandit Queen’ is based on the life of Phoolan Devi, inspired by Mala Sen’s book ‘India’s Bandit Queen: The Two Stories of Phoolan Devi’. The project featured prominent roles by Seema Biswas, Nirmal Pandey, Aditya Srivastava, Saurabh Shukla, Manoj Bajpayee, Raghuveer Yadav, Rajesh Vivek, Aniruddh Agarwal, and Govind Namdev.
‘Bandit Queen’ was released on January 26, 1994.
