Greater Noida, August 5: The Surajpur police in Gautam Buddha Nagar have successfully arrested a cunning individual who posed as a lawyer to extort money from unsuspecting victims. Authorities seized a fake notary seal, counterfeit documents, and various court-related papers from the accused.
According to police reports, the suspect had been misleading innocent individuals by claiming to be an attorney. He was illegally collecting money under the pretense of securing bail and representing clients in court. On August 3, 2026, the Surajpur police, aided by local intelligence and beat policing, apprehended the accused, Veer Singh Sisodia, near Gate Number 2 of the Surajpur Court.
The suspect, a 40-year-old resident of Uncha Amipur village in the Jarcha police jurisdiction, admitted during interrogation that he presented himself as a lawyer at the Surajpur Court. He would then approach people visiting the court, promising to secure bail, represent them in legal matters, and provide legal assistance. After gaining their trust, he would prepare fake documents, affixing counterfeit lawyer and notary seals, and present them as legitimate.
Through this fraudulent scheme, he amassed significant sums of money. Police recovered five court-related files, three fake lawyer/notary seals, and other forged documents from his possession. An investigation has been initiated regarding the seized documents and seals. Authorities are also trying to determine how long the suspect has been operating this scam and how many victims he has deceived. Additionally, they are investigating whether anyone else is involved in this fraudulent network.
Police records indicate that the accused has a history of criminal activity. In 2017, he faced charges under Sections 435 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code at the Jarcha police station. Furthermore, in 2026, various cases were registered against him under the Indian Justice Code (BNS) at the Surajpur police station.
The Surajpur police have initiated legal proceedings against the suspect under the relevant sections. They have urged the public to verify the identity and legitimate registration of anyone claiming to be a lawyer before engaging their services. Citizens are also encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the police immediately to effectively curb such fraudulent practices.
