Varanasi/Jaunpur, August 13 (Kiran News). A tragic road accident in Gureni, under Khetasarai police station area of Jaunpur district, claimed the lives of four people late Tuesday night, leaving more than 12 others seriously injured. The collision occurred when a Shahganj-bound Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus, carrying passengers, rammed into a speeding truck head-on near Gureni Bazaar.

The impact was so severe that both vehicles were badly damaged, and panic broke out at the scene. Police and administrative officials rushed to the spot and immediately began rescue operations. The injured were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, while those critically hurt were referred to the district hospital for advanced treatment. Doctors there declared four passengers dead.
The deceased include a two-year-old child, two women, and one man. Two victims have been identified as Devi Prasad (32) from Khuthan and Gena Devi (59) from Azamgarh. Efforts are underway to identify the remaining two bodies.
Preliminary Probe Points to Bus Driver’s Negligence
District Magistrate Dr. Dinesh Chandra and Superintendent of Police Dr. Kaustubh visited the accident site and later met the injured at the hospital, directing doctors to ensure the best possible treatment. SP Dr. Kaustubh stated that initial findings indicate the bus driver was at fault, as the vehicle moved into the wrong lane, causing the head-on collision.
DM Dr. Chandra confirmed the death toll and assured that a detailed investigation will be conducted into the incident.
