Four individuals were arrested in Greater Noida for possessing counterfeit currency worth ₹1.84 lakh, revealing a larger scheme.

Greater Noida, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : Police in Greater Noida have arrested four individuals for their involvement in a counterfeit currency operation. The arrests occurred on October 16, when officers from the Knowledge Park police station seized a total of 920 fake ₹200 notes, amounting to ₹1.84 lakh. Alongside the counterfeit currency, police also recovered ₹1,000 in cash and a Swift Dzire car without a license plate, which was allegedly used in the crime.
According to police reports, the suspects lured unsuspecting victims by promising to triple their money in exchange for real currency. This illicit scheme allowed them to profit from the counterfeit notes. The arrests were made based on manual intelligence and confidential information, leading to the capture of the suspects near Kondli Pusta village. The identified individuals are Arjun Singh, Shashank Gupta, Shantanu Singh, and Vaibhav Shukla.
Further investigations revealed that Arjun Singh had previously met a person named Kuber Singh while incarcerated in Ayodhya’s jail in 2024. During their time together, they allegedly devised a plan to engage in the counterfeit currency business. Singh, along with Gupta, Singh, and Shukla, was said to have prepared the counterfeit notes, offering victims fake money in exchange for real currency, which they then divided among themselves.
All four suspects are residents of various districts in Uttar Pradesh, aged between 19 and 22. Arjun Singh, 22, hails from Gwadia village in Sultanpur and has completed eighth grade. Shashank Gupta, 19, is a final-year B.Com student from Haiderganj village in Ayodhya. Shantanu Singh, also 19, is a second-year BA-LLB student from Hariyarpur village in Sitapur. Vaibhav Shukla, approximately 19, is a final-year BCA student from Tandouli village in Ayodhya.
Police records indicate that Arjun Singh has a prior case registered against him at the Cantt police station in Ayodhya. Similarly, Gupta, Shantanu Singh, and Vaibhav Shukla are also named in a case at the same police station. The police are now investigating the source of the counterfeit currency and any potential accomplices involved in this operation. Given the scale of the counterfeit notes seized, the investigation is expected to expand further.
