Gandhinagar, March 16: The Indian LPG carrier Shivalik has successfully reached Mundra Port in Gujarat, bringing gas from Qatar amid rising tensions in West Asia. The vessel arrived at 5 PM on Monday, as previously announced by the Ministry of Shipping.
Shivalik carries approximately 45,000 metric tons of LPG, equivalent to around 3.2 million domestic gas cylinders. The ship set sail on March 14, crossing the Strait of Hormuz, and is the first LPG vessel to arrive in India during the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
During a press briefing on Monday, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Special Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, confirmed, “The Shivalik LPG carrier, which departed from the Persian Gulf, has crossed the Strait of Hormuz and reached India.”
Sinha also reassured that all Indian sailors in the Persian Gulf region are safe. He stated, “There have been no incidents reported in the last 24 hours, and we are continuously monitoring the situation. We maintain contact with every ship and its crew. Currently, there are 22 Indian-flagged vessels in the Persian Gulf, manned by 611 Indian sailors.”
He further noted that a ship from the UAE is expected to arrive in India with crude oil by March 17. “The Indian-flagged vessel Jag Ladki departed from the UAE on March 14, carrying approximately 81,000 tons of Murban crude oil. The ship and all its Indian sailors are safe. It is scheduled to reach Mundra Port tomorrow.”
