New Delhi, May 23: The sacred Sikh pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib has officially commenced for 2026. The first group of devotees was sent off from the Gurudwara in Rishikesh with great reverence and enthusiasm.
On this occasion, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, flagged off the group, marking the beginning of their spiritual journey. A large gathering of devotees and community members was present to witness the event.
Sandhu shared his experience on the social media platform X, describing the moment as “spiritually significant.” He noted that this historic annual pilgrimage symbolizes deep faith for devotees worldwide. The journey began under the guidance of the “Panj Pyare,” which he found to be an incredibly inspiring experience.
He also reminisced about his own visit to Hemkund Sahib in 1975 with his father, Sardar Bishan Singh Samundri, which remains an emotional memory for him.
During his interactions with the pilgrims, Sandhu extended his best wishes for a safe, healthy, and successful journey. He emphasized that while the trek to this high Himalayan region is challenging, it offers profound spiritual rewards.
The atmosphere at the Gurudwara was filled with devotion and excitement, as the energy of the devotees infused the surroundings with spiritual vibrancy.
Hemkund Sahib is located in the Chamoli district, perched over 15,000 feet above sea level in the Himalayas. While devotees flock here during the summer months, the journey becomes extremely difficult from October to April due to heavy snowfall.
