New Delhi, April 21: Across India, there are numerous temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, each with its own rich history. Among them, the twelve Jyotirlingas hold significant reverence, believed to embody the living and miraculous form of Lord Shiva. However, did you know that there is a Shiva temple located over 7,000 miles away from India, where the deity himself is said to protect the forests?
This temple is situated in the dense jungles of Kauai Island, part of the Hawaiian state in the United States. Kauai is the oldest and the fourth largest island in Hawaii, known for its lush greenery, where the Kadavul Temple is nestled. Visitors often report feeling a powerful energy surrounding the temple, believed to be the presence of Lord Shiva, who is said to reside there and bless his devotees.
The Kadavul Temple is not only a symbol of faith but also of beauty. Inside the temple, one can find a variety of beautiful plants, along with idols of Goddess Parvati, Nandi Maharaj, Murugan, and Lord Ganesha. A large water pond, which is always filled, is also located within the temple premises. The architecture reflects Sri Lankan styles, with carvings that differ significantly from traditional Indian designs.
In the sanctum sanctorum, there is a 700-pound, three-foot tall self-manifested crystal Shiva Lingam, accompanied by a grand statue of Lord Shiva in his Nataraja form. While the worship of stone Shiva Lingams has been a long-standing tradition, this temple uniquely features the transparent crystal Lingam, which is worshipped daily.
Additionally, in front of the sanctum, there is a pavilion made from lava rock and redwood, housing a Nandi statue carved from a single stone weighing 32,000 pounds. The temple was established in 1973 by Satguru Shivaya Subramanyaswamy and is dedicated to Lord Shiva’s Nataraja form.
It is important to note that the temple is open for darshan from 9 AM to 12 PM, after which no visitors are allowed.
