Washington, March 19: During a crucial hearing in Washington, Kash Patel faced tough questions from U.S. senators. As the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), he defended the agency’s aggressive counter-terrorism strategy, emphasizing that current threats are more complex and rapidly evolving than ever before.
In this Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, senators raised numerous questions regarding surveillance, resource allocation, and rising threats. Throughout the session, Patel appeared confident and assertive, repeatedly stating that the FBI’s strategy is not only effective but also essential.
Patel referenced recent operations, noting that the FBI has thwarted four major terrorist attacks, three of which were inspired by ISIS. He also highlighted the changing tactics of terrorist organizations, which are increasingly recruiting through digital platforms, expanding their reach and impact. To tackle this new challenge, Patel stressed the urgent need for technology-based and proactive strategies.
When Senator Ron Wyden questioned the FBI’s surveillance system, particularly the use of commercial data, Patel clarified that the agency operates within constitutional and legal boundaries. He dismissed any allegations of rights abuses.
Additionally, Patel revealed that the FBI has established 59 Homeland Security Task Forces nationwide, collaborating with various agencies. He noted a double-digit increase in intelligence gathering and biometric data collection, making it easier to identify and track suspects.
He also expressed concern over the rising threats of international crime and cyber fraud, mentioning that large gangs in Southeast Asia are actively scamming American citizens. The FBI is working with foreign governments to dismantle these networks.
Throughout the hearing, Patel emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation and resource expansion to stay ahead of evolving threats.
