Explosion Destroys School in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

Islamabad, March 27: A bomb explosion in the village of Ghora, located in the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, has resulted in the destruction of a government school. The blast occurred on Thursday, completely leveling the school building. According to police sources, suspects were attempting to assemble an IED inside the school when the explosion took place. This information has not yet been officially confirmed.

Reports from Pakistan’s leading daily, ‘Dawn’, indicate that a police officer has received intelligence regarding a potential suicide bomber. It is believed that the Bannu Police Lines may have been the intended target. Consequently, the Bannu Police Lines Road has been closed to all vehicles, and security has been heightened throughout the city to prevent any further incidents.

Last year, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa witnessed a surge in targeted attacks. An annual report by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) highlighted that violence in the region escalated, with the death toll rising from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025.

Just last week, unknown gunmen shot and killed an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Elite Force in the Manobanda area of the Gandigar region in Upper Dir district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to ‘Dawn’, the victim, Yusuf Khan, was targeted outside his residence. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Police sources stated that Khan was on his way to the mosque for prayers when he was attacked. The Gandigar police have registered a case against the unidentified assailants and have initiated an investigation.

Additionally, ‘Geo News’ reported that on March 13, an explosion near a police vehicle in the Betni area of Lucky Marwat district resulted in the deaths of at least seven police officers.
