Bhubaneswar, July 22: Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania emphasized the need for improved inter-state coordination, modern technology, and intelligence-based strategies to address internal security threats that extend beyond state borders.
Khurania made these remarks during the inaugural session of the Eastern Regional Police Coordination Committee 2026, held in Bhubaneswar.
The meeting, chaired by the Odisha DGP, included participation from DGPs of Bihar, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand, along with representatives from central armed police forces and other senior police officials.
Organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the meeting aimed to strengthen coordination among states to effectively combat organized crime, left-wing extremism, and other emerging security challenges.
Welcoming the attendees, Khurania expressed gratitude to the Home Ministry for entrusting Odisha Police with the responsibility of hosting this crucial regional coordination meeting. He noted that such collaborative platforms play a vital role in fostering better coordination, mutual trust, and enhancing the country’s internal security framework.
He pointed out that modern security challenges, including organized crime, cybercrime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and left-wing extremism, are not confined to any single state’s borders. Therefore, a technology-driven, intelligence-based, and coordinated approach is necessary to tackle these issues.
The Odisha DGP stated that no state can effectively confront these challenges alone. He highlighted the urgent need for continuous intelligence sharing, rapid information exchange, the use of modern technology, and close cooperation among states.
According to an official statement, the day-long meeting covered several strategic issues in detail. These included monitoring and rehabilitation of surrendered left-wing extremists, curbing inter-state drug trafficking, sharing real-time intelligence to combat cybercrime, timely transfer and investigation of Zero FIRs, enhancing railway security, and developing joint strategies to address the challenge of illegal infiltration.
The meeting also discussed joint operations against active criminal gangs, strengthening police arrangements in border areas, and promoting technology-based intelligence policing.
At the conclusion of the meeting, DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania expressed confidence that the decisions and suggestions made would play a significant role in enhancing cooperation among states, strengthening law and order, bolstering national security, and effectively addressing the complex security challenges in Eastern India.
