London, July 19: In a thrilling encounter between India and England, the hosts secured a remarkable victory in the third and decisive ODI match. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, England posted an impressive total of 387 runs for the loss of just three wickets.
Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell opened the innings for England, forming a formidable partnership. The duo put together 192 runs for the first wicket in just 30.1 overs, marking the highest opening partnership for England against India in ODIs. This record surpasses the previous best of 160 runs set by Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow at Edgbaston in 2019.
Duckett’s outstanding performance included a personal best of 141 runs, making it the highest individual score by an English player in ODIs at Lord’s. This innings is also the second-highest by an English batsman against India in ODIs, trailing only Andrew Strauss’s 158 runs scored in 2011.
With this innings, Duckett became the sixth English opener to score centuries in both Test and ODI formats at Lord’s, joining the ranks of legends like Dennis Amiss, Graham Gooch, and Alastair Cook.
England’s total of 387 runs is now the highest ever recorded by any team in ODI history at Lord’s. Duckett’s innings was his fourth ODI century, achieved off 135 balls, including one six and 18 fours. Jacob Bethell contributed significantly with 91 runs from 93 balls, hitting two sixes and 11 fours. Joe Root continued his excellent form, scoring an unbeaten 74 runs off 48 balls, while Jos Buttler added a quickfire 41 runs from just 13 balls. Captain Harry Brook chipped in with 14 runs off 12 balls.
