Empowering Women Through the Prime Ministers Skill Development Scheme

Chamoli, March 5: The Government of India is implementing various beneficial schemes aimed at empowering women. The objective is to make women self-reliant through these initiatives. In the hilly district of Chamoli, Uttarakhand, the ‘Prime Minister’s Skill Development Scheme’ is helping women become self-sufficient and manage their own businesses.

A commendable initiative is underway in Chamoli to empower women. Under the Prime Minister’s Skill Development Scheme, women are receiving vocational training that enables them to become self-reliant. After completing their training, many women are starting their own businesses and earning a decent income. This skill development initiative is bringing about positive changes in their lives, with over 200 women in the district trained so far.

Post-training, women are launching small enterprises and supporting their families with newfound independence. During the training, they learn how to create jute bags, sewing, embroidery, handicrafts, and other useful products. After completing their training, women are either starting businesses through self-help groups or on an individual basis.

There is a strong market demand for jute bags and other products, providing women with a steady income. This not only strengthens their economic status but also boosts their confidence within their families and communities. Additionally, the training camps provide women with knowledge about product quality, packaging, and marketing, enabling them to reach a wider market.

Women express that this scheme has given them the opportunity to become self-reliant, allowing them to contribute to their family’s financial responsibilities. Beneficiary Seema Negi shared with a news agency that she learned sewing for free during the training. She is now sewing jute bags and also working on women’s suits and blouses. She emphasized that the government’s initiative in rural areas is a great step forward. After receiving training, they are becoming self-sufficient and no longer need to depend on others.
