Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : The situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is reaching a critical juncture, with the possibility of an emergency declaration looming within the next 48 hours. The federal government of Pakistan has completed preparations to address potential scenarios involving emergency rule or governance by the governor in the province. Local media reports suggest that the final decision will depend on ongoing discussions between government and opposition representatives.
Danial Chaudhry, a leader from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), hinted at significant decisions being made soon in a post on social media platform X. His comments have heightened speculation regarding the political developments unfolding in the province.
According to sources cited by Geo News, administrative changes are also in the works. This includes potential adjustments at the level of deputy commissioners and secretaries, along with a list of possible appointments for regional and district police officials.
Reports indicate that the government is considering implementing emergency measures in 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the initial phase. However, there has yet to be any official confirmation of a final decision regarding this matter. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party is actively protesting across the province under the leadership of its president, advocating for the protection of the constitution. Demonstrations have continued for the seventh consecutive day.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister, Sohail Afridi, has announced that a crucial decision will be made on October 13. It is also reported that PTI’s top leadership is set to meet with Afridi soon. This meeting, which may include senior leaders like Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, will likely address the current political landscape, messages received from the central government, and preparations for a proposed long march. Significant decisions are anticipated to arise from this discussion.
With the PTI currently governing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the ongoing political tug-of-war between central and provincial leadership has made the prospect of an emergency declaration or governor rule increasingly pertinent.
