Prime Minister Modi to Launch Over ₹13,000 Crore in Development Projects During Chennai Visit

Chennai, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, on Sunday to inaugurate and lay the foundation for various development projects worth over ₹13,000 crore. This visit will include the launch of metro rail, national highways, railway infrastructure, port enhancements, and significant projects in the petroleum and education sectors.

During his visit, Modi will address a public gathering and travel on the Chennai Metro from the Poonamallee Bypass Station to the Porur Bypass Station around 11:30 AM. Following this, he will visit the Jalakandeswarar Temple for prayers at approximately 12:15 PM. He is also scheduled to tour the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Center at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras.

Around 1:30 PM, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation for various projects. Later, at approximately 3 PM, he will participate in the golden jubilee celebration of the Jayagopal Garodia Hindu School and address attendees.

One of the key projects is the second phase of the Chennai Metro Rail, specifically the Poonamallee-Vadapalani stretch, costing around ₹4,900 crore. This section will feature a unique double-decker structure spanning 3.7 kilometers and will include a modern signaling system to enable driverless metro operations. The project aims to reduce travel time and improve connectivity between the rapidly developing western suburbs of Chennai and the city center.

Modi will also inaugurate and lay the foundation for national highway projects worth approximately ₹3,700 crore. These initiatives are designed to strengthen road connectivity, reduce travel time, and alleviate traffic congestion. The Prime Minister will inaugurate a 36-kilometer four-lane stretch of National Highway-744, enhancing access to major pilgrimage sites, industrial centers, and commercial areas. Additionally, a 30-kilometer section of the Madurai Ring Road on National Highway-744A will be inaugurated to ease traffic within Madurai city.

He will also lay the foundation for the construction of a bypass on National Highway-83, providing an alternative route for traffic around Thiruvarur.

The Prime Minister will dedicate railway infrastructure projects worth over ₹750 crore to the nation, which include the Karaikal-Peralam railway line and three railway flyovers in Coimbatore and surrounding areas. These projects aim to improve rail connectivity and reduce congestion at busy railway crossings.

Furthermore, he will inaugurate five redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, enhancing passenger facilities and infrastructure at stations such as Palani, Vellore Cantonment, Ambasamudram, Paramakudi, and Namakkal.

Modi will also launch several projects at Chennai Port, Kamarajar Port, and V.O. Chidambaranar Port, aimed at increasing cargo capacity, strengthening maritime transport, and improving logistics efficiency. Four projects at Chennai Port will be inaugurated, including a dedicated storage yard, export-import warehouses, a modern cruise terminal, and a seafarers’ club.

At Kamarajar Port, the inauguration of the Coal Berth-3 project is scheduled, along with the foundation laying for capital dredging works for the second phase of the container terminal.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation for a project at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited’s Manali refinery, which involves the production of Group-2 and Group-3 lube oil base stocks, with an investment of approximately ₹1,620 crore. This project aims to boost domestic production of high-quality lubricants.

Modi will dedicate the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Center at IIT Madras to the nation and launch a global scientific mission focused on creating a three-dimensional cellular map of over 100 human brains throughout various life stages.

The Prime Minister’s participation in the golden jubilee celebration of the Jayagopal Garodia Hindu School symbolizes the institution’s 50 years of contribution to education, emphasizing academic excellence, discipline, cultural values, and holistic development.

This visit is anticipated to significantly enhance transportation, industrial infrastructure, maritime trade, and scientific research in Tamil Nadu. According to the central government, these projects will improve connectivity, stimulate economic activities, and provide better facilities for the public.
