Embracing Imperfection: Saurabh Shukla on Life and Relationships

New Delhi, March 25: Actor and filmmaker Saurabh Shukla believes that perfection is an illusion. He asserts that every individual is inherently flawed and dismisses the notion of a “perfect marriage” or “perfect relationship.” According to him, the beauty of human connections lies in these imperfections.

In a recent conversation, Shukla remarked, “Thank God nothing in this world is perfect. We are imperfect beings. We should celebrate our imperfections. I believe that perfection leaves no room for growth, while imperfection always offers the possibility of change and improvement. To put it plainly, perfection is quite boring. Imperfection means there is still something to work on, and that is what life is all about.”

He emphasized that expecting perfection in relationships is misguided. Real life is about accepting imperfections and managing them with love. Reflecting on deeper existential questions, he stated, “From a human perspective, the only perfect thing in life is death. We do not know what happens after we die.”

Shukla further explained that the true strength of any relationship lies in honesty. “Every person should be an open book in their relationship. Nothing should be hidden from your partner. When someone conceals the truth, it may seem manageable at the moment, but it ultimately harms the relationship. The most painful aspect is feeling kept in the dark.”

“When the truth eventually comes out, the pain stems from the fact that you were never informed. This realization can feel like a significant betrayal. It breeds doubt in the other person, leading them to question everything. This weakens the foundation of the relationship and erodes trust.”

Known for his remarkable performances in films like “Jolly LLB,” “Jolly LLB 2,” and “Raid,” Saurabh Shukla’s latest release, “Jab Khuli Kitaab,” explores similar themes. The film tells the story of an elderly couple, Gopal and Anusuya, whose long-standing marriage faces turmoil after a secret is revealed. The family then embarks on a journey of love, forgiveness, and understanding each other anew.
