Mumbai, March 4: An elderly man was brutally murdered in Palamu district, Jharkhand. The victim has been identified as Rajdev Mahto, a resident of Kaji Pakri village in the Tarhasi police station area. His body was discovered on Wednesday in the Kusumatad forest, located a short distance from the village.
Rajdev Mahto had been missing since the night of February 27. He attended a Shradh Bhoj (a ritual feast) in the village. According to family members, he consumed alcohol after the feast. His wife, Dulari Devi, returned home alone that night, thinking her husband would come back later. However, he never returned. The family began searching for him the next day but found no clues.
On Wednesday morning, villagers noticed a foul smell coming from the Kusumatad forest and went to investigate. Inside the forest, they found the body of an elderly man. Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene, took possession of the body, and confirmed the identity as Rajdev Mahto. Preliminary investigations revealed marks of sharp weapon injuries on his face and neck.
The police have sent the body for post-mortem and later handed it over to the family for last rites. Based on the statement of the deceased’s wife, a case has been registered against unknown individuals.
The station in-charge stated that all possible angles are being investigated to determine the motive behind the murder. Inquiries are being conducted in the surrounding areas, and evidence has been collected from the crime scene. The incident has created an atmosphere of fear in the locality.
