Train Cancelled: Railway passengers face major setback as East Central Railway announces cancellation of several major trains due to intensifying fog conditions in North India. Between December and February, train operations have become increasingly difficult, prompting authorities to cancel multiple services and reduce frequency of others to ensure passenger safety.
Dense fog drastically reduces visibility and requires train speeds to be reduced significantly. Running a large number of trains at normal speeds in such conditions could increase accident risks, leading Railways to make planned schedule changes. This decision will affect routes across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Delhi. Passengers are strongly advised to check train status before travelling to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
Safety Measures During Fog Season
According to railway information, many trains are cancelled during heavy fog months purely for safety reasons. Hajipur Zone officials explained that fog not only reduces visibility on tracks but also makes signal detection difficult, substantially increasing accident risks. This necessitates speed reduction and controlled train operations.
From December 1st to February 28th, 2026, numerous trains will be completely suspended while weekly frequency of some services has been reduced. Several trains have been short-terminated, meaning they will not operate on their complete routes. This directly impacts travellers to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and surrounding states. Passengers planning trips during these months should verify updates before booking tickets.

The following trains are completely cancelled: Train No. 14112/14111 Prayagraj Jn. – Muzaffarpur Express, Train No. 22198/22197 Veerangana Laxmibai (Jhansi) – Kolkata Express, Train No. 12327/12328 Howrah-Dehradun Upasana Express, Train No. 14003/14004 Malda Town – New Delhi Express, Train No. 14523/14524 Barauni-Ambala Harihar Express, Train No. 14617/14618 Purnea Court – Amritsar Janseva Express, Train No. 15903/15904 Dibrugarh-Chandigarh Express, Train No. 15620/15619 Kamakhya – Gaya Weekly Express, Train No. 15621/15622 Kamakhya – Anand Vihar Weekly Express, Train No. 12873/12874 Hatia-Anand Vihar Express, Train No. 22857/22858 Santragachi – Anand Vihar Weekly Express, and Train No. 18103/18104 Tatanagar-Amritsar Express.
Short-Terminated Services
Train No. 12177 Howrah–Mathura Chambal Express will remain cancelled between Agra Cantt.–Mathura Junction from 5th December 2025 to 27th February 2026. Train No. 12178 Mathura–Howrah Chambal Express will not operate between Mathura Junction–Agra Cantt from 1st December 2025 to 23rd February 2026.
