Hong Kong, October 20 (Daily Kiran): A Dubai-based Emirates cargo plane crashed early Monday morning at Hong Kong International Airport, killing two ground service workers. Fortunately, all four crew members on board the aircraft survived the accident and were taken to a hospital for medical evaluation, officials confirmed.

According to a report by the South China Morning Post, the aircraft, Emirates Flight EK9788, skidded off the runway at around 3:50 a.m. during landing, collided with a ground service vehicle, and overturned into the sea near the airport’s northern runway. The runway has since been temporarily closed.
Police said the cargo plane, arriving from Dubai, appeared to have struck and dragged a ground vehicle along the runway before plunging into the sea. Two ground staff members trapped in the vehicle were pulled from the water — one was declared dead at 5:55 a.m., and the other succumbed to injuries at 6:26 a.m. at North Lantau Hospital. The deceased were aged 30 and 41.
Airport authorities stated that a press briefing would be held at 10 a.m. to share more details. Meanwhile, the Airport Authority’s website reported that at least 12 cargo flights have been cancelled so far, including flights from Tel Aviv (Challenge Airlines 5C852), Anchorage and Los Angeles (Atlas Air 5Y8902), and Doha (AirBridge Cargo RU8409).
Passenger flights remain unaffected, as operations continue on the central and southern runways. The Civil Aviation Department has expressed deep concern over the accident and confirmed that it is coordinating with Emirates and other relevant authorities.
A spokesperson for the Transport Department expressed sorrow over the deaths of the two ground staff members, emphasizing that flight safety is paramount. The Air Accident Investigation Authority has initiated a full-scale inquiry to determine the cause of the crash.
