New Delhi, March 28: North Carolina continues its search for a new head coach for its men’s basketball team. Although there has been little progress in securing one of their top candidates, significant decisions are expected to follow the NCAA Tournament.
As the search unfolds, various opinions are surfacing regarding potential candidates. The latest endorsement comes from NBA forward Draymond Green, who has a strong recommendation for the role.
On a recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” Green shared his thoughts on the UNC position, advocating for Jerry Stackhouse.
“The University of North Carolina job is open, and many prominent names are being discussed. I believe North Carolina faces an intriguing decision. In this NIL era, how do you attract a candidate that your major donors will support? It’s a fascinating challenge,” Green remarked.
He continued, “The name that stands out to me is Jerry Stackhouse. In today’s NIL landscape, where boosters tend to rally around one of their own, Stackhouse fits the bill. He possesses the demeanor necessary for this role and commands respect. He should certainly be considered for this position, especially given his impressive career at North Carolina.”
Stackhouse previously coached at Vanderbilt for five seasons, ending with a record of 70-92 and failing to reach the NCAA Tournament. Since then, he has gained additional coaching experience as an assistant with the Golden State Warriors.
While Stackhouse is seen as a ‘family’ candidate, some argue that this may not be the best direction for the Tar Heels. This is a pivotal hire, and the focus should be on finding someone with a proven track record of success.
