New Delhi, March 19: The central government has appointed Dr. Ravi Mittal, a 2016 batch IAS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre, as Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
This appointment follows the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). According to an office memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the appointment will be effective for four years from the date of assuming office or until further orders.
Dr. Ravi Mittal hails from Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh. After earning his MBBS degree, he secured the 61st rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination in his first attempt in 2015. This officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre has demonstrated his skills in various significant positions. He has served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the District Panchayat in Mahasamund, Raigarh, and Raipur. Subsequently, he was the Collector of Jashpur district, where he garnered attention for his effective administrative style in the home district of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai.
Recently, Dr. Mittal was assigned the role of Commissioner for Public Relations, along with additional charge as Joint Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. He is regarded as one of the trusted advisors to the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and has played a vital role in the state’s branding, communication, and development initiatives. His entire family is connected to the medical field.
His appointment as Deputy Secretary in the PMO reflects the increasing role of young officers from the Chhattisgarh cadre in the central government. This position is based on deputation, where the officer handles significant policy-making and coordination responsibilities at the center. Deputy Secretaries in the PMO typically work under the direct supervision of the Prime Minister and coordinate with various ministries.
This appointment serves as an inspiration for young IAS officers, particularly those transitioning from a medical background to excel in administration. The central government periodically appoints such talented officials to key positions to ensure better coordination between the state and the center.
