Seoul, April 29: Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of former President Donald Trump, is currently on a four-day visit to South Korea. According to sources, this trip is primarily for business purposes.
Yonhap News Agency reported that this is Trump Jr.’s second visit to South Korea since the beginning of his father’s second term last year.
His visit comes at a time of increased global uncertainty, particularly due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. Additionally, several issues remain unresolved between South Korea and the United States, including South Korea’s commitment to a $350 billion investment in the U.S. and American restrictions on sharing intelligence related to North Korea.
Previously, Trump Jr. visited South Korea in April of last year, where he spent two days at the invitation of Chung Yong-jin, chairman of the Shinsegae Group.
During that visit, he met with several prominent Korean business leaders, including Kim Dong-kwan, vice chairman of Hanwha Group. Discussions focused on potential partnerships in the shipbuilding, defense, and energy sectors.
Sources indicate that South Korea’s business community requested Chung to facilitate Trump Jr.’s visit to help establish connections with the Trump administration.
Reports suggest that leaders from the semiconductor, automobile, energy, steel, and defense sectors are eager to have one-on-one meetings with him. Chung and Trump Jr. are known to have a close relationship.
According to sources in the retail industry, Trump Jr. is also scheduled to attend a concert on Wednesday, celebrating the release of a debut album by Chung’s wife, flutist Han Ji-hee.
It is noted that Chung has a good rapport with Trump Jr. and was invited to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in the U.S. Chung and his wife also attended Trump’s inauguration ceremony last year.
