Chennai, August 2: DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran has voiced his concerns regarding the Cauvery water dispute, the proposed Mekedatu dam, NEET, and alleged political corruption. He accused leaders who remain silent on issues affecting Tamil Nadu of betraying the state’s interests.
Maran took to the social media platform ‘X’ to express that leaders who compromise their principles for power are akin to venomous snakes selling their loyalty for positions.
His remarks come at a time when political debates surrounding the Cauvery issue have intensified in Tamil Nadu, with rival parties accusing each other of betrayal.
Maran questioned the commitment of political leaders who visit Tamil Nadu but fail to address the state’s rights concerning the Cauvery water dispute.
He also targeted those who do not oppose Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu reservoir project, arguing that it is essential to resist this initiative to protect Tamil Nadu’s rights to Cauvery water.
On the NEET issue, Maran stated that merely highlighting alleged irregularities in the examination process is insufficient. Parties claiming to represent Tamil Nadu should explicitly demand the abolition of the NEET system, which has long been a significant political issue in the state.
He also referenced allegations of political corruption in Tamil Nadu politics, claiming that some political voices criticize the BJP for alleged attempts to buy off legislators but remain silent on similar accusations related to the Tamilaga Vetria Kazhagam (TVK). According to him, such selective opposition is a form of political hypocrisy.
Maran emphasized that remaining silent on these actions is also a form of betrayal. He criticized the handling of protests against NEET and mentioned police actions against protesting students.
He condemned the treatment of NEET protesters by both Delhi and Tamil Nadu police, stating that the lack of condemnation from leaders reveals inconsistencies in their stance.
He remarked, “What a remarkable betrayal!” highlighting the contradictions and selective outrage present in contemporary Tamil Nadu politics.
