Divine Bhasma Aarti at Mahakaleshwar Temple Draws Devotees on Vaishakh Ashtami

Ujjain, April 10: On the auspicious occasion of Vaishakh Ashtami, a large crowd of devotees gathered at the world-renowned Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain. The morning Bhasma Aarti was a captivating and emotional sight.

Devotees from across the country and abroad queued up late into the night, eagerly waiting for a glimpse of their beloved deity. The temple resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal,” creating a vibrant atmosphere.

The morning Bhasma Aarti is considered particularly special. The sacred ash used in the ceremony is prepared from the ashes of cow dung cakes, Palash, Banyan, Peepal, and Ber wood. During the Aarti, approximately 2.5 kilograms of ash is offered to awaken Baba Mahakal, honoring a long-standing tradition.

As per the rituals, the morning ceremonies commenced with the opening of the temple doors. At Brahma Muhurta, the Mahanirvani Akhara performed the first water offering to Baba, followed by a ceremonial bath with Panchamrit. This mixture includes pure milk, fresh yogurt, ghee, sugar, honey, and various fruit juices. After the Abhishekam, a grand Bhasma Aarti took place, where Baba was adorned with ash, allowing devotees to witness the divine in both formless and formed aspects.

Following the Aarti, Baba Mahakal was beautifully adorned. A crown was placed on his head, along with a silver Tripundra. Additionally, a Trishul-shaped ornament was added, and Baba was decorated with floral garlands, Bel leaves, sandalwood, and other offerings.

After the adornment, a Kapoor Aarti was performed, followed by the offering of Bhog. This form of Baba is revered as his manifest incarnation.
