New Delhi, March 23: The Chaitra Navratri festival is significant, as each day is dedicated to the worship of nine divine forms of the Goddess. On the sixth day, devotees honor Goddess Katyayani, the sixth incarnation.
Goddess Katyayani is revered as a symbol of strength and liberation from fear. Her blessings are believed to alleviate fears and remove obstacles in life. Today, we highlight some renowned Shakti Peeths and Siddh Peeths dedicated to Goddess Katyayani, where devotees can find relief from their troubles.
In New Delhi, one of the most famous and powerful temples of Goddess Katyayani is located in Chhattarpur. Here, she is worshipped in her fierce form, often depicted with weapons. The temple is easily accessible via the metro. Notably, the goddess is only visible to devotees for 12 days each year, during the Chaitra and Sharadiya Navratri festivals, when her special court is open.
In Vrindavan, the ‘Uma Shakti Peeth’ temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths. It is believed that the hair of Goddess Sati fell at this site. According to local tradition, the gopis of Vrindavan performed intense penance here to win Lord Krishna as their husband. Goddess Uma is considered a divine form of Goddess Katyayani, and special worship is conducted during the nine days of Navratri.
In Khagaria, Bihar, the Katyayani Dham is another significant Shakti Peeth. It is believed that the left arm of Sati fell at this location. Here, the goddess is also worshipped as the deity of milch animals. According to legend, Goddess Katyayani instructed a devotee in a dream to build a temple at this site. Initially, a mud temple was constructed, which has undergone renovations over time. On the sixth day of Navratri, a grand ceremony with special adornments is held in her honor.
