Digital India Initiative Transforms Policing: SSP Pramod Kumar Yadav Highlights Progress

Bhagalpur, July 1: SSP Pramod Kumar Yadav of Bhagalpur emphasized the significant advancements in policing and crime investigation as the Digital India initiative marks its 11th anniversary. The digital framework has not only enhanced the efficiency of police operations but has also expedited the processes of crime investigation, criminal identification, and resolution of public complaints. The increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is making police work even more manageable.

Reflecting on the changes brought about by the Digital India initiative, SSP Yadav noted that as technology continues to reach new heights, the ambitious Digital India campaign by the Indian government is benefiting both the general public and various government departments. The police department has rapidly expanded its online services. Many functions, including Human Resource Management Systems (HRMS), are now conducted online. Through the e-office system, various applications and administrative tasks are being processed online at the SP, SDPO, and SHO levels. Additionally, continuous work is being done through the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) and several other online portals.

SSP Yadav stated that the primary goal of Digital India is to prevent citizens from making repeated visits to government offices for their needs. The e-office system promotes a paperless work environment, saving paper and benefiting the environment. This digital framework extends beyond offices, significantly contributing to the resolution of online applications from the public. Initiatives like the Bihar Government’s support portal facilitate public hearings and online problem-solving, forming a crucial part of the Digital India campaign. In the future, wherever there are opportunities for digital technology, it will be further advanced.

He also mentioned that department staff are receiving training in computer and e-office usage. Currently, about 30 to 40 percent of personnel at the SP office are knowledgeable in working with computers and the e-office system, with plans to increase this number in the future. Discussing the role of technology in crime investigation, he highlighted the emergence of new AI-based technologies. Work is underway on AI-generated cameras, and the government plans to introduce more initiatives in this direction.

SSP Yadav reported that a significant number of cameras have been installed in Bhagalpur under the Smart City project, aiding in crime control. Furthermore, several portals and agencies under Digital India provide substantial assistance to the police in identifying criminals and conducting investigations.

He noted that various digital apps are available, allowing for the identification of criminals captured anywhere in the country, provided their crime records and photos are accessible. If necessary, online verification can be conducted with other states regarding the individual. This way, data on criminals and other essential information is readily available to the police. The Digital India initiative has proven to be a highly positive step for policing. As technology becomes increasingly vital for both the public and government offices, its scope is expected to expand further in the future. The aim of technology is to simplify lives, enhance the effectiveness of government operations, and make various services more accessible. Digital India plays a crucial role in this direction.
