Mumbai, May 11: Actress Dia Mirza, known for her passion for acting and environmental causes, shared glimpses of a special event held in memory of poet and lyricist Kaifi Azmi. On Monday, she posted photos and videos from the event on Instagram.
The gathering featured several stars, including Urmila Matondkar, Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Tanvi Azmi, and Baba Azmi.
Dia expressed her gratitude, stating, “Every moment spent with the Akhtar family is always special and enlightening. I feel honored to be part of this beautiful evening remembering the great thinker, revolutionary, and poet Kaifi Azmi.”
She described the evening as “inspirational” and “memorable,” thanking everyone who attended. Dia also recalled lines from one of Kaifi’s poems that she often remembers:
“The birds did not make noise for no reason; someone must have come from the city to the forest. Those who were cutting trees knew that without shade overhead, the body would burn. Those celebrating spring perhaps did not think that thorns were nurtured by someone’s blood. The bird sitting on the electric wire laughs, thinking that the forest may no longer belong to it. Those who flew away thirsty from their forest must have found every mirage as vast as the ocean.”
Kaifi Azmi, a renowned Indian progressive Urdu poet, lyricist, and film writer, was the father of actress Shabana Azmi. He is celebrated in Hindi cinema for his romantic songs as well as his poetry addressing social issues. Kaifi contributed significantly to Hindi film music, writing memorable songs for films like “Kaagaz Ke Phool,” “Haqeeqat,” and “Heer Ranjha.”
