New Delhi, March 22: Mahendra Singh Dhoni is not just a name; he is the heartbeat of countless Chennai Super Kings fans. As the IPL 2026 season approaches, the atmosphere at MA Chidambaram Stadium electrified when Dhoni made his entrance, with the crowd erupting in cheers. Many fans were visibly emotional upon seeing their idol.
This season is speculated to be Dhoni’s last as a player.
Before the season kicked off, the Chennai Super Kings hosted an event called ‘Roar 2026’ at their home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium. Former legends of Chennai took to the field together. The team shared a video on their social media platform, X, showing Dhoni walking into the stadium. As he stepped onto the field, the crowd chanted his name. One woman fan was moved to tears, while others also showed their emotions.
In another video shared by Chennai, former batsman Michael Hussey was seen batting, hitting a powerful shot off current captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s delivery. Another clip featured Ambati Rayudu at the crease, while Dhoni and other players were seen enjoying themselves. Dhoni was also spotted keeping wickets and joking with the batsmen.
The event was attended by several former Chennai greats, including Rayudu, Matthew Hayden, Michael Hussey, Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, Lakshmipathy Balaji, and Muttiah Muralitharan.
Under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy, Chennai Super Kings aim to perform well in IPL 2026. This season, Sanju Samson will also be part of the team after being traded in. Samson showcased remarkable form in the T20 World Cup 2026, scoring 321 runs in five matches and earning the Player of the Tournament title for his outstanding performance.
Last season, Chennai Super Kings had a disappointing run, finishing at the bottom of the table with only four wins out of 14 matches. The team will kick off its IPL 2026 campaign on March 30 against the Rajasthan Royals.
