Ujjain, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : The Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain witnessed a large turnout of devotees on October 13 for the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal, held on the auspicious third date of the bright fortnight of Ashwin.
Early Tuesday morning, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets, following the blessings of Lord Veerbhadra. After a divine adornment and the Bhasma Aarti, devotees were allowed to have darshan of Baba Mahakal. The temple resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal,” filling the air with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras.
As the temple gates opened, the ritual began with the ceremonial ablution of Lord Mahakal using Panchamrit, a mixture of water, milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices. During the worship, the first bell was rung to offer water, and after the camphor aarti, Baba Mahakal was adorned with a crown. The Bhasma Aarti followed, accompanied by the sounds of cymbals, drums, and conch shells.
After the Panchamrit ritual, Baba Mahakal was beautifully adorned in his royal form. Many devotees queued from Monday night, eager to witness the sacred Bhasma Aarti.
According to tradition, the Bhasma Aarti is offered to Baba Mahakal by the Mahanirvani Akhara. It is believed that after the offering of Bhasma, Baba Mahakal reveals his form to the devotees. This event attracts a significant number of pilgrims to the holy city of Ujjain.
