New Delhi, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Goddess Chandraghanta on social media on Tuesday, sharing a Sanskrit verse that highlights her divine power. He noted that when the goddess is pleased, she paves the way for liberation for all beings on Earth.
The verse shared by the Prime Minister reads: “त्वं वैष्णवी शक्तिरनन्तवीर्या विश्वस्य बीजं परमासि माया. सम्मोहितं देवि समस्तमेतत् त्वं वै प्रसन्ना भुवि मुक्तिहेतुः.” In English, it translates to: “O Goddess! You are the Vaishnavi power, endowed with infinite valor, and the root cause of this entire universe. The whole world is governed by you, and when you are pleased, you create the path to liberation for all beings on Earth.”
This well-known verse is from the ‘Durga Saptashati’ (Devi Mahatmyam), specifically the fourth verse of the eleventh chapter (Narayani Stuti). It is recited in gratitude by the gods, including Indra, after the goddess vanquishes the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha. In this stuti, the deities express their reverence for the goddess, describing her global form and powers.
Through this verse, the goddess is honored as the embodiment of Lord Vishnu’s strength (Vaishnavi Shakti), the origin of creation, and the supreme illusion (Maya). It emphasizes that the entire world is enchanted by her, and when she is pleased, she becomes the cause of liberation from worldly attachments.
On Tuesday, devotees worshipped Goddess Chandraghanta, the third form of Goddess Durga. She is depicted with a crescent moon shaped like a bell on her head, which is why she is called “Chandraghanta.” The goddess is portrayed with ten arms, holding weapons such as a sword and arrows, and her vehicle is a lion. Her form symbolizes courage, valor, peace, and the destruction of evil forces.
