Ujjain, July 16: The Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple witnessed a grand Bhasma Aarti on the second day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashadha. A significant number of devotees gathered to witness this divine spectacle.
Early Thursday morning, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets, following the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra. As devotees caught their first glimpse of Baba Mahakal after the divine adornment and Bhasma Aarti, the temple resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and the recitation of mantras.
With the opening of the temple gates, the idol of Lord Mahakal was bathed in Panchamrit, a sacred mixture made from milk, yogurt, ghee, sugar, and fruit juices. Baba Mahakal was adorned with moon, bel leaves, Vaishnav tilak, Tripund, and sacred ash.
The temple priest conducted the Maha Aarti, allowing numerous devotees to witness the Bhasma Aarti. Many had queued since the previous night to have a glimpse of their beloved deity.
Traditionally, ashes from cremation grounds were offered to Mahakal, but now, a special ash made from the dung of the Kapila cow and medicinal herbs is used. During the Bhasma Aarti, men are required to wear traditional dhoti and women must wear sarees.
The Aarti of Baba Mahakal is renowned across the country and attracts not only the general public but also prominent personalities. To maintain order during the event, a large number of police personnel were deployed around the temple.
