Ujjain, June 21: The Mahakaleshwar Temple witnessed a significant turnout of devotees for the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal on the seventh day of the Shukla Paksha in Jyeshtha month. Devotees began lining up late into the night to seek blessings from Baba Mahakal.
Early Sunday morning, after receiving the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. As the divine adornment and Bhasma Aarti commenced, the atmosphere resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal,” filling the temple complex with fervor. The air was alive with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras.
With the opening of the temple gates, the devotees performed the Jalabhishek of Lord Mahakal, using Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, sugar, and fruit juices. Offerings included tridents, Tripund, damru, bhang, sandalwood, and bel leaves inscribed with the name of Rama.
The temple priests conducted the Mahaarati, and a large number of devotees witnessed the Bhasma Aarti. Many had queued since late Saturday night to have a glimpse of their revered deity.
Traditionally, ashes from cremation grounds were offered to Mahakal, but now, Bhasma made from cow dung of the Kapila cow and medicinal herbs is used. During the Bhasma Aarti, men are required to wear traditional dhoti-sola, while women must wear sarees.
The Aarti of Baba Mahakal is renowned across the nation and attracts not only the general public but also prominent personalities. To maintain order during this event, a significant number of police personnel are deployed around the temple.
