Devotees Gather at Prayagraj for Auspicious Damodar Puja During Kartik Month

In Prayagraj, devotees flock to the Yamuna for Damodar Puja, marking the sacred Kartik month with rituals and prayers for prosperity.

Prayagraj, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : In Prayagraj, the holy city of Uttar Pradesh, the Kartik month has ushered in a wave of religious rituals. Devotees are thronging the banks of the Yamuna River at Balughat, participating in the month-long Kartik Snan. Each morning, they immerse themselves in the river, praying for their families’ well-being and the prosperity of the nation.

Kartik is revered as one of the most sacred months in Hinduism. It is believed that bathing, giving, and performing rituals during this time yields immense spiritual rewards. Many devotees at Balughat shared their practices, stating they create clay idols of deities after bathing in the Yamuna, followed by worship and immersion.

One woman described her experience, saying, “We come here to bathe in the Yamuna. We make idols from clay, worship them, and then immerse them. Our rituals are dedicated to Lord Krishna, Radha, and Lord Damodar. This observance lasts for a month.”

Another devotee emphasized the significance of this month, noting that it is special for its emphasis on bathing, charity, worship, and the lighting of lamps. She mentioned that worshipping and serving the Tulsi plant is believed to fulfill desires.

The atmosphere at Balughat is vibrant, with groups of women taking holy dips in the Yamuna. After their rituals, they sit by the river, offering flowers, garlands, pots, and lamps in a formal worship of Lord Damodar. The celebrations are further enriched by group singing and devotional songs, creating a festive spirit throughout the month.
