Uttar Pradesh Elections 2027: A Tight Contest Between BJP and SP in Basti District

The 2022 Uttar Pradesh elections saw a fierce battle between BJP and SP in Basti, with key issues shaping the outcomes.

Basti, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : The Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2022 showcased a competitive landscape in Basti district across five assembly seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured victories in two seats, including Harraiya, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) won two seats, including Kaptaan Ganj. The Mahadeva seat was claimed by the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP). Key issues such as local development, employment, farmer concerns, law and order, and caste dynamics played a crucial role in the electoral outcomes.

In the Basti Sadar constituency, SP candidate Mahendra Nath Yadav emerged victorious, defeating BJP’s Dayaram Chaudhary. This seat witnessed a direct contest between the two major parties.

Development initiatives, employment opportunities, local issues, law and order, and farmer-related matters were at the forefront of discussions during the elections. Each party sought to win over voters based on their respective campaign issues. Ultimately, Mahendra Nath Yadav prevailed, while Dayaram Chaudhary faced defeat.

In the Harraiya constituency, BJP’s Ajay Singh secured his position for a second consecutive term by defeating SP’s Trayambak Nath. Singh received approximately 88,200 votes, while Trayambak Nath garnered 69,871 votes, marking a clear victory for Singh.

Ajay Singh’s political influence in Harraiya has been significant, having previously defeated Rajkishore Singh, a former MLA from 2002 to 2012, in the 2017 elections. His re-election in 2022 further solidified the BJP’s standing in the region.

Kaptaan Ganj saw SP’s Kavindra Chaudhary triumph over BJP’s Chandra Prakash Shukla. Chaudhary received a total of 94,273 votes, compared to Shukla’s 70,094. The seat has a rich political history, with various leaders representing it over time. The SP’s victory in 2022 strengthened its position in this constituency.

In the Mahadeva constituency, SBSP’s Dudh Ram won against BJP’s Ravi Kumar Sonkar. The seat’s electoral dynamics are influenced by caste demographics, with Scheduled Caste voters comprising approximately 24 percent of the electorate.

Rajendra Prasad Chaudhary from the SP won in the Rudhali constituency, defeating BJP’s Sangeeta Devi. Chaudhary received 86,360 votes, while Sangeeta Devi received 71,134. This victory further bolstered the SP’s standing in Basti district, where both parties secured two wins each across the five assembly seats.
