Ujjain, August 17: On the auspicious occasion of Nag Panchami and the third Monday of Sawan, a significant number of devotees gathered at the Mahakaleshwar Temple. The temple doors opened at 2:30 AM, followed by a special Bhasma Aarti at 3 AM. After a grand Panchamrit Abhishek, the deity was adorned beautifully.
Early on Monday, the doors of Baba Mahakal were opened with the permission of Lord Veerabhadra, accompanied by the sounds of drums and trumpets. As devotees caught their first glimpse of Baba, the temple echoed with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras.
The divine doors of Lord Nagchandreshwar Mahadev, who resides atop the main spire of the Mahakaleshwar Temple, were also opened. This rare opportunity for devotees to witness the deity occurs only once a year. According to tradition, the doors of Lord Nagchandreshwar were opened at midnight, and since then, devotees have been engaged in worship and prayer. This viewing will continue uninterrupted for 24 hours.
Ujjain Collector Roshan Kumar Singh stated, “Today is the festival of Nag Panchami. As you know, devotees can only see Lord Nagchandreshwar for 24 hours throughout the year. The temple doors have just been opened, and worship has begun. I urge devotees to follow the arrangements made by the administration.”
It is noteworthy that Baba Mahakal was offered a silver crown, and the Mahanirvani Akhara presented him with Bhasma. Amid the sounds of drums and trumpets, the Bhasma Aarti took place, allowing devotees to witness the transformation of Baba Mahakal from formless to form.
