Delhis Lieutenant Governor Reviews Fire Service Summer Action Plan

New Delhi, April 17: Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu conducted a review of the Delhi Fire Service’s ‘Summer Action Plan’ on Thursday. The focus of this review was on modernization, enhancing infrastructure, and strengthening the capacity for quick responses during emergencies.

He also assessed the department’s summer action plan and instructed increased vigilance in light of rising temperatures.

Sandhu expressed on the social media platform ‘X’, “Putting one’s life at risk while fulfilling duty to ensure the safety of others is the essence of true courage. On the occasion of ‘Fire Service Week’, I had the honor of participating in the flag hoisting ceremony with the officials of the Delhi Fire Service, reaffirming our shared commitment: ‘We serve to save.’”

He emphasized that this year’s theme strongly reminds us that fire safety is a collective responsibility. Let us all work together to create a safer Delhi.

While reviewing the proposed amendments to the Delhi Fire Service Rules, 2010, he stressed the importance of extensive consultations with residents, traders, and businesses to ensure that the framework is inclusive, practical, and effective.

He added, “In line with the honorable Prime Minister’s vision, every regulatory framework should promote ‘ease of living’ and ‘ease of doing business,’ ensuring robust fire safety measures without creating unnecessary hurdles for citizens.”

In light of the rising temperatures, the LG reviewed the department’s summer action plan and directed heightened vigilance. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of a comprehensive public awareness campaign to educate citizens about safety measures, regulatory protocols, and effective responses in emergencies.

Later today, Sandhu visited the DDA’s ‘Swabhimaan Apartments’ in Jailrawala Bagh, Ashok Vihar, a key project that embodies Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Housing for All.’

In a message on ‘X’, he stated, “These modern, permanent, multi-story homes, built with ownership rights, represent a significant step towards providing dignity, security, and pride to the most marginalized sections of society. This is truly a historic initiative with the potential for replication across the country.”

In the spirit of citizen-centric governance, I interacted with the residents there, who expressed their gratitude to the honorable Prime Minister for these homes. They also raised concerns about issues such as seepage, improper waste management, malfunctioning lifts in some towers, and problems caused by miscreants.

The LG mentioned that he has given clear instructions to DDA officials, district administration, and Delhi Police to prioritize resolving these issues and ensure a safe, clean, and well-organized environment.
