Chris Gayle Praises Fearless Young Batsmen for Transforming Modern Cricket

Sharjah, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : West Indies cricket icon Chris Gayle has expressed admiration for the aggressive and fearless approach of young batsmen in modern cricket. He believes that this new generation of players is unafraid to take risks, which has made the sport more thrilling than ever before.

According to Gayle, today’s batsmen aim to hit big shots from the very beginning and focus on scoring quickly. This positive and daring mindset has injected fresh energy into the game, captivating audiences with aggressive batting and spectacular sixes and fours.

He noted that the confidence of modern batsmen has significantly increased, allowing them to trust their natural game even in challenging situations. Gayle attributes the accelerated scoring rates in T20 and limited-overs cricket to this fearless attitude, which has made the sport even more entertaining.

Speaking at the World Championship of Legends (WCL) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, the 47-year-old welcomed the changing dynamics of the game, where batsmen confidently dominate bowlers from the first ball. Gayle expressed his delight that contemporary batsmen are consistently breaking records, crediting their fearless approach as the primary reason for this trend.

“I am happy that batsmen are breaking records now, not bowlers. This is because our young players are playing cricket fearlessly. They attack from the very first ball. Players are playing without fear or bias,” said Gayle, known as the ‘Universe Boss.’ He believes that the shift in mindset among cricketers has notably transformed white-ball cricket.

Gayle emphasized that today’s batsmen are eager to score runs right from the start and are not intimidated by risks. “The game has changed. Players have changed. Batsmen are now desperate to score and play fearlessly from the first ball. They are completely unafraid, and that is good for the game,” he added.

In contrast, former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo shared his perspective from a bowler’s viewpoint on the evolving dynamics of the sport. He acknowledged that while exceptional batting has raised the game to new heights, bowlers must also enhance their skills to keep pace with the changes.

“I’ve been observing the batting around the world, and I’m glad my playing days are over. Batsmen’s skills have improved tremendously. To keep up with the changes in the game, bowlers need to elevate their skills and adopt new techniques,” Bravo stated.

He further remarked that scoring 400 or even 500 runs in one-day matches might soon become commonplace. “My time has passed, and the game is evolving. The shift towards faster-paced play is a positive development. However, bowlers need to improve and adapt to these new methods,” he concluded.
