New Delhi, March 18: A meeting of the Delhi State Disaster Management Authority (DSDMA) was held on Wednesday, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Tarunjeet Singh Sandhu and co-chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The meeting extensively reviewed the preparations for disaster management in the capital.

The Delhi Urban Flood Mitigation Plan received theoretical approval during the meeting, with a proposed budget of approximately ₹21,000 crore. This plan aims to strengthen drainage infrastructure, clean major drains, create additional stormwater channels, and develop a real-time flood monitoring system. The objective is to significantly reduce the risk of urban flooding during the monsoon. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of timely implementation of this plan in light of the upcoming monsoon season.

Significant discussions also took place regarding the energy sector. The Chief Minister instructed that a balance in energy usage be maintained, renewable energy be promoted, and strict monitoring of black marketing and hoarding be enforced. Additionally, uninterrupted power supply to critical institutions during potential crises was highlighted. The global situation arising from ongoing conflicts in the Gulf region was also reviewed concerning Delhi’s energy demand and supply.

In a crucial decision, state-of-the-art Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs) and an Integrated Command and Control Center will be established in Delhi. These centers will serve as the main control hubs for disaster management, utilizing real-time coordination, AI, and satellite data for predictive analytics and rapid response mechanisms. They will be employed in all emergency situations, including floods, earthquakes, fires, and chemical disasters.

The Lieutenant Governor directed all relevant departments to expedite the implementation of these plans and ensure timely completion. The Chief Minister reiterated that making Delhi more disaster-resilient and secure is the government’s top priority. She also reaffirmed the adoption of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ten-point agenda for disaster risk reduction and management as a guiding principle.
