New Delhi, February 21: The Delhi Police presented four Youth Congress activists in Patiala House Court on Saturday after they protested at the ‘India AI Impact Summit.’ The police requested a five-day remand for the accused. In response, the Youth Congress filed a bail petition in court.
The police lawyer claimed that anti-national slogans were raised during the protest, which echoed divisive chants similar to those from Nepal’s ‘Gen-Z.’ They chose a location with a significant presence of foreign delegates. The police alleged that the protesters engaged in scuffles, resulting in injuries to some officers.
The police lawyer emphasized that educated individuals should act responsibly. When the court inquired about the need for a five-day remand, the police stated, “We need to investigate who orchestrated the plot and who was involved, including where the T-shirts were printed.”
The defense lawyer opposed the police’s remand request, arguing that these arrests undermine the dignity of democracy. He warned that if arrests were made for protests, even MPs demonstrating in Parliament could face similar consequences.
The lawyer representing the Youth Congress activists stated, “The accused are affiliated with an opposition political party and protested peacefully at ‘Bharat Mandapam.’ There is no evidence that they harmed anyone. Protesting is a constitutional right, so police remand is unnecessary.”
The Youth Congress activists filed a petition in court seeking bail, highlighting their youth and the importance of their careers.
The court has reserved its decision on the matter.
