New Delhi, March 8: In a bid to curb snatching incidents, the Delhi Police has arrested a mobile phone thief in the eastern district. The accused was found in possession of the stolen mobile phone and the motorcycle used in the crime.
According to police reports, the operation was conducted by the Ghazipur police station. The suspect was apprehended near the NH-24 border picket after he snatched a mobile phone from a young woman.
Following a rise in mobile thefts and snatching incidents in the area, a special team was formed at the Ghazipur police station. This team operates under the leadership of Inspector Upadhyay Bala Shankaram and the supervision of ACP Madhu Vihar.
On Sunday, while stationed at the NH-24 border picket, the police team heard the screams of 20-year-old Palak Sharma from Adarsh Nagar, Khoda Colony. She reported that a motorcyclist had snatched her mobile phone and fled the scene.
The police team immediately pursued the suspect and successfully apprehended him. During the search, they recovered the stolen mobile phone and the motorcycle used in the incident.
The arrested individual has been identified as Bhupender, 24, a resident of Khoda, Ghaziabad. Police investigations revealed that he has a history of involvement in snatching and theft cases.
During interrogation, he disclosed that a similar case had been registered against him at the New Ashok Nagar police station and that he had recently been released on bail on February 11, 2026.
An FIR has been filed at the Ghazipur police station based on the victim’s complaint. The case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and police have stated that further investigations are ongoing.
